Step 2: Create a Smart Application

What is a Smart Application and when do you need it?

A Smart Application is a tailored application pack generated by Smart CV Builder from your Main CV and a specific job description. It includes a tailored CV, a tailored cover letter, and an interview preparation pack (questions with suggested answers). Every Smart Application is tailored from your Main CV, whichever CV you happen to have open at the time. Use this step whenever you want to apply for a specific job and need your application customized to match the role's requirements.

Quick Steps

  1. Open the Smart Application menu from the CV Builder home page.
  2. Upload the job description (PDF or DOCX) or select a previously uploaded one.
  3. Name your Smart Application for easy identification later.
  4. Click Create Smart Application to start the tailoring process.
  5. Review the tailored CV in Edit Mode.
  6. Edit the generated cover letter in the Smart Application section.
  7. Review the interview questions and suggested answers.
  8. Click Submit to save your Smart Application.

How do I upload a job description?

Go to the Smart CV Builder home page inside your account and click the Smart Application menu.

If this is your first time uploading a job description, you will see the initial upload page.

The line under the dialog title, Tailored from your Main CV. Keep its Experience Vault up to date for best results, is a reminder of where the material comes from. If you do not have a Main CV yet, build one first in Step 1.

If you uploaded the job description before, select it from the dropdown list.

Otherwise, click Upload Job Description and choose the PDF or DOCX file.

How do I name my Smart Application?

After uploading, name your Smart Application so you can easily find it later — especially when you apply to multiple roles.

  • Automatic name (suggested): Smart CV Builder suggests a name based on the file name (for example, Marketing_Manager_Job_Description). You can keep it or adjust it.
  • Custom name (optional): You can enter your own name (for example, Google_Senior_Developer).

How does Smart CV Builder tailor my application?

Click Create Smart Application to start the tailoring process. The system analyzes the job description to identify key requirements:

  • Job title
  • Required skills and qualifications
  • Key responsibilities
  • Experience level and industry knowledge

These requirements are matched against your Main CV to align your experience and skills with the job. Your Main CV is always the source, so keep it, and especially its Experience Vault, up to date.

Tailoring picks from the experience you have recorded, so depth matters. If your tailored CVs feel thin, run an AI Experience Builder session first: it interviews you about your roles and fills the Experience Vault of your Main CV, which is exactly what the tailoring draws on.

CV Tailoring

Smart CV Builder selects and emphasizes the most relevant information from your Main CV:

  • Matching your experience: The system identifies relevant duties, achievements, and projects.
  • Keyword alignment: Relevant keywords are included to improve ATS compatibility while keeping the text readable and professional.
  • What is copied: only the parts of your Main CV that are printed, including your Job Details. Your Experience Vault and your reference letter transcripts stay private in your Main CV and are never copied into the tailored CV.

Cover Letter Generation

Smart CV Builder generates a cover letter aligned with the job description. The system scans for key details such as the company name, role title, and required qualifications. The cover letter is pre-populated so you can review and edit it before finalizing.

Interview Questions and Suggested Answers

Smart CV Builder generates interview questions and suggested answers based on the job requirements and your experience.

  • How it works: The system creates likely questions and proposes answers aligned with your background.
  • Review only: You can review the questions and answers, but you cannot edit them.

How do I review and fine-tune my Smart Application?

After generation, open your new Smart CV in Edit Mode to review and finalize your Smart Application. You will see a new section at the bottom called Smart Application.

  • Review the CV data: Verify that the most important parts of your experience were captured and emphasized.

Key Takeaways

  • Uploading the job description aligns your CV with the job requirements.
  • Relevant keywords are included to improve ATS compatibility while keeping content readable.
  • A tailored cover letter and interview Q&A are generated to save time and improve consistency.
  • Review the Smart Application section in Edit Mode before you submit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which file formats can I upload for the job description?

You can upload the job description in PDF or DOCX format.

Can I edit everything that is generated?

You can edit the cover letter in the Smart Application section. You can review the interview questions and suggested answers, but you cannot edit them.

Why should I name my Smart Application?

Naming helps you find and manage multiple applications — especially when you apply to several roles in the same field.

Why does my tailored CV not show the Experience Vault?

Because the Experience Vault lives only in your Main CV and is never printed. A tailored CV receives the Job Details that are shown on the CV, not the private notes behind them. To change what appears, edit the Experience Vault in your Main CV, click Regenerate Job Details, save, and create the Smart Application again.
